What The 2023 Decision Did

The 2026 vote was a vote to undo something. This is the something, and what it changed about who stands between a buyer and a jar.

The decision, in three parts

  1. A batch of peptides was sorted into a restricted group.

BPC-157 was in it. So were other names people look up today.

  2. That closed the compounding pharmacy route.

A compounding pharmacy mixes a medicine to order. One patient, one prescription. It is closer to a tailor than a factory. After 2023 it could not use these.

  3. The reasons given were questions, not findings.

The agency said there were safety questions it could not answer. It said there was not enough good evidence in people. Note what that is not. "We lack proof" is a different sentence from "this is bad for you."

What the rule closed, and what it left open

Closed
  • Compounding pharmacies making these to a prescription
  • A pharmacist checking the dose
  • A doctor in the middle of the decision
Left wide open
  • Jars sold for lab use, marked research use only
  • Sold straight to anyone, no prescription
  • No pharmacist and no doctor at all
A rule meant to slow things down mostly changed who was standing between the buyer and the jar. For most of these compounds, the answer became: nobody.

Three years, in order

  1. Before 2023
    Some of these were compounded

    A prescription, a pharmacist, a known dose.

  2. 2023
    The category changes

The pharmacy route shuts. The research supply route does not.

  3. 2023 – 2026
    New work accumulates

Enough for the question to be asked again.

  4. 23–24 July 2026
    The committee looks again

Six of seven are recommended, all by narrow margins. The FDA has not yet answered.
